KGF: Kolar Gold Fields

kgf stands forKolar Gold Fields. It is a gold mining zone located in the Bangarpet Taluk in the Kolar District of Karnataka, India. This was among the largest mining areas for gold in India that was shut down in 2001 due to rising production costs, decreasing reserves and a low production of gold.

It was a renowned site for gold mining in the past, and was the second deepest gold mine worldwide. It was also known by the name of "Little England" by the then British people due to the pleasantweather as well as its stunning landscape. Today, you can observe some British homes, well-planned roads and buildings at the site. The golf course was built in 1885 at KGF for British employees working in the gold mines. it is registered with the Indian Golf Union.
